FAQ’s

At Peltzman Chiropractic we understand that you may have questions about natural treatment options for better health and well-being.

We hope the information below will help guide you.

Dr. Jeff and Dr. Val Peltzman are always available to discuss any health concerns with you.

What does a chiropactor do?

A chiropractor is trained to align the spine and the body’s musculoskeletal structure to relieve pain and provide natural healing. Hands-on spinal manipulation is the most common treatment. Other therapies used to restore mobility to patients are neck/back traction on a decompression machine, electric muscle stimulation, ultrasound, flexion/distraction techniques and other low-force methods.

How are chiropractic adjustments performed?

Drs. Jeff and Val will first perform a physical exam, record a patient’s medical history and possibly take X-rays, if deemed necessary. They will determine a treatment plan and review it with the patient.

For a chiropractic adjustment, they generally use their hands to manipulate the spine and joints to reduce pain and enhance joint function. When needed, they may also use hand-held devices or a decompression table to target healing in specific areas of the body. They are highly trained and have years of experience using these healing methods on thousands of satisfied patients.

Is chiropractic treatment safe for children?

Yes, chiropractic care is safe for children, especially with their physical activities of daily life and sports that often result in falls and blows. Children commonly experience neck and back pain, in addition to muscle soreness and discomfort. Drs. Jeff and Val adjust treatment accordingly for children, using a gentler touch and explaining their actions in advance for an increased comfort level.

What is the "popping" sound when a spinal adjustment is made?

The “popping” sound sometimes heard when a joint is adjusted is a gas bubble releasing between the joints. It is not a cause for pain. It is similar to opening a bottle of seltzer - gas bubbles escape, causing a "popping" sound.

Is chiropractic care covered by health insurance?

Most health insurance plans cover chiropractic treatments. Peltzman Chiropractic Associates accepts many insurance plans. Otherwise, payment options can generally be arranged to assist patients.

How long will I need chiropractic care?

Based on your health needs, a plan will be developed to provide healing for acute, chronic or preventative care. Drs. Jeff and Val will discuss this with you to accommodate your busy schedule while also making time for your health and therapy.

How does an adjustment relieve pain?

A chiropractor’s manipulation of the spine and joints helps to resolve joint inflammation and thus reduce a patient’s pain. By eliminating the interferences of misaligned vertebrae, the function of the spine is improved, impacting the functioning of the body’s overall nervous system. When the nervous system is properly controlled, all the cells, tissues, muscles and organs of the body are designed to resist disease and heal more easily. Very simply, chiropractic care from Drs. Jeff and Val helps patients achieve better health and well-being … naturally.

Besides spinal manipulation by hand, what else can chiropractors do?

In addition to spinal manipulation, the chiropractors at Peltzman Chiropractic Associates use these healing methods:

  • Neck and Back Traction done on a decompression machine provide cyclical, painless stretching to reduce pressure and promote blood and fluid flow for pain relief.
  • Electric Muscle Stimulation to treat muscle spasms and increase blood flow to the affected area for faster healing
  • Ultrasound to heat the tissues thus increasing their elasticity, plus brings additional blood flow to target area
  • Flexion/Distraction Technique that tractions the lumbar (lower) spine to reduce spinal pressure
  • Low Force Techniques are used instead of spinal manipulation to treat certain conditions.

How can you help a painful herniated disc?

The painful pressure of a bulging or herniated disc can be relieved by reducing the pressure on the effected spinal region through chiropractic treatment. Drs. Jeff and Val may use the decompression machine, or the flexion/distraction technique, or possibly spinal manipulation to help patients lessen their pain level from this painful condition.
